How to Use WhatsApp Web Without Your Phone

Many of us rely on WhatsApp for messaging both on our smartphones and computers daily. However, accessing WhatsApp Web on your PC or Mac has traditionally required your smartphone to be nearby and connected. Fortunately, WhatsApp has introduced a multi-device feature that changes this scenario.

With this new feature, you can now link all your devices to WhatsApp using your account. This means you no longer need to keep your smartphone close to your computer for WhatsApp Web or desktop applications to function. Here’s how you can take advantage of this convenient update:

Previously, until July 2022, using WhatsApp on your computer required your smartphone to maintain an active internet connection at all times for synchronization. However, this limitation has been eliminated. Now, you can use WhatsApp Web with just one initial setup, which takes less than a minute.

How to Access WhatsApp Web Without Your Phone

To use WhatsApp Web without your phone tethered, follow these simple steps:

Step 1: Open your web browser and navigate to web.whatsapp.com on your desktop or laptop. You’ll see a QR code displayed.

Step 2: Open WhatsApp on your smartphone. Tap on the three-dot menu at the top left corner, select “Linked Devices,” and then choose “Link Device.”

Step 3: As a security measure, authenticate the new connection. This involves using your phone’s fingerprint or entering a PIN for verification.

Step 4: Once authenticated, scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen with your phone’s WhatsApp scanner.

Step 5: Wait for synchronization to complete. Once done, you can start sending and receiving messages directly from your computer without needing your phone or tablet connected to the internet.

This setup allows your computer or laptop to remain authenticated with your WhatsApp account after the initial connection.

Using WhatsApp Web Without a Mobile Number

If you wish to use WhatsApp without a mobile number, you can use a valid and active landline number instead. Here’s how to set it up:

Step 1: Ensure your smartphone is connected to the internet.

Step 2: Download and install WhatsApp on your device.

Step 3: Launch WhatsApp, accept the terms of service, and enter your landline number for verification.

Step 4: Wait for the option to receive a call for verification instead of an SMS, as landlines cannot receive SMS messages.

Step 5: Once you receive the call with the verification code, enter it into WhatsApp to complete your registration.

Now, you can use WhatsApp without needing a mobile number. Note that you’ll need to manually create a contact list to save new contacts.

Using WhatsApp via Connected Devices

Alternatively, you can link WhatsApp to another account on an existing smartphone or tablet. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open WhatsApp Web on a tablet or second phone.

Step 2: Activate the desktop version from the options menu on the mobile page.

Step 3: Open WhatsApp on your primary device, go to “Linked Devices,” and select “Add Device.”

Step 4: Scan the QR code displayed on the second device using your primary device’s WhatsApp scanner.

This method allows you to use WhatsApp on your secondary device without a mobile number, but only through the browser. The WhatsApp application itself cannot be active on two devices simultaneously.

Things to Remember Before Using This Feature

  • Ensure your smartphone has an active internet connection.
  • Keep your WhatsApp mobile app updated to the latest version.
  • Enable two-factor authentication for added security.
  • Secure your smartphone to prevent unauthorized access to your WhatsApp account.
  • Review and adjust your privacy settings as needed.

By following these steps and precautions, you can enjoy using WhatsApp Web seamlessly across multiple devices without the need for your phone to always be connected. WhatsApp’s multi-device feature enhances flexibility and convenience for users, whether on a PC using the desktop application or through WhatsApp Web.
